Happy belly digestive smoothie

I’m really excited to share my happy belly digestive smoothie here on the blog - one of my favorite blends to help deal with an upset stomach.

There are so many different things that can lead to stomach issues like constipation, diarrhea, bloat, indigestion, reflux, gas, etc.

Consuming heavily processed foods, dairy, cruciferous veggies, improper food combining, certain legumes, stress and leaky gut are some of the most common culprits of disruption in the body that leads to stomach discomfort.

Whenever I’m dealing with stomach issues, it’s almost always a result of one or more of these things.

When it happens (and as long as it’s not something serious), I like to focus on making simple changes to my diet and choosing foods that are gentle and easy to digest for as long as I need to until things start to feel ‘normal’ again.

My morning smoothie is always my starting point, which is why I came up with a blend that is simple, nutritious, gentle and contains ingredients that are either naturally easy to digest or believed to aid the digestive system.

Here’s most of what’s in it and some of the health benefits that each ingredient carries:

Papaya - contains an enzyme called ‘papain’ that aids in digestion. It also has a high water and fiber content to help deal with or prevent constipation, and promote regularity and a healthy digestive track.

Banana - high in fiber (and adds a touch of sweetness to the blend).

Turmeric and Cinnamon - both potent anti-inflammatory ingredients.

Ginger -  relieves indigestion and nausea.

Butternut squash - nutrient dense, high in fiber and easy to digest vegetable (and gives the smoothie a rich and thick texture).

Live culture yogurt (yogurt with probiotics) - contains ‘good’ microorganisms that benefit the digestive track.

Apart from the health benefits, what I love about this smoothie is how good it is - rich, creamy, still sweet despite being very low in sugar, and even has a subtle ‘kick’ to it thanks to the ginger.

It’s one of my all-time favorites.

I hope you love it as much as I do and that it makes your belly as happy as it makes mine!
